On Sale – Sussex Muddy@rse MTB Club Jerseys are GO!

20 04 2008

After a year in the planning, I am proud to announce that the Sussex Muddy@rse MTB Club Jersey is now here and for sale.Sussex Muddy@rse Jerseys

A germ of an idea has been turned into a really cool design by regular Muddy@rser, Guy, who has so very kindly offered his fantastic design services free of charge. I hope you agree that between us we’ve come up with something you’d be proud to wear when out on the trails. Big, big thanks go to Guy because without him I’d still be stuck with an idea in my head and no way of turning it into something real.

I’ve chosen Endura to make the kit because they can offer a wide selection of garments including short /long sleeve MTB jerseys (loose fit), road jerseys (tighter fit) windproof gilets, downhill jersey (can get armour under), windproof jackets, buffs and kit bags. Two colour ways will be available, one for the girls (er, Pink) and one for the boys (Green),  The full range of prices & sizing info will be available very soon once my p’ter stops saying NO! In the meantime, I’ve attached the jersey design to whet your appetite (colours not exact).

To keep the prices as competitive as possible I’ve secured sponsorship from one of my LBS, Evolution Cycles in Eastbourne. Evo (as their affectionately known) are a relatively new bike shop in Eastbourne but are owned and run by keen MTB’ers and I must thank them for their support. It’s meant Sussex Muddy@rse can offer a top-quality custom designed product at the best price possible and still allows a contribution from every jersey sale to go towards the Care for Connor Appeal.

Endura stipulate a minimum of 15 jerseys/jackets are needed to run each colour so if you could let me know asap if you’re interested I can at least get an approximate idea of numbers.  I’ve also got a jersey and gillet sample which I’ll be taking along to the Club Ride on Sunday.  I should have a list of all the prices then too.

Cheers, Lisa

Club Ride: 27 April, Redhill Rumble & The North Downs

19 04 2008
We’re off to Redhill to be guided round the lovely varied trails on offer by very regular Muddy@rsers, Rich and Donna.
This area is the North Downs proper and has a nice mix of woodland trails, including some flowy, sinewy singletrack and some stonking great climbs thrown in too. There’s nothing too technical on this ride (although there are a couple of bombhole play areas we will be visiting), but a bit of fitness is required to get up those darn hills.
We’ll be stopping long enough to take in the gorgeous views to the South Downs every once in a while (er and catch my breath!) so as usual, bring plenty of food, water, spares, helmet etc. If you forget, there is the odd pub you could call into but with an total mileage approx.15 we won’t be stopping anywhere for too long.
Start time: 10.30am to roll at 10.45am
Where: Redhill Train Station – TOP CAR PARK (free on Sundays).
Helmets must be worn, you must ride within your own limits and be responsible for your own safety at all times.  Happy with that then see you on the ride.  If you could let us know you’re intending to join the ride that would be great too so we can have an idea of numbers.
Cheers, Lisa

“It’s Snow Jim ….but not as we know it!”

6 04 2008

Here’s a write up from Guy on the snowy ride that he, Jim and Neil went on after the Goodwood Spring Challenge was cancelled today.  Mentalists !

“…Well the weather forecast warned of heavy snow for Sunday but, having actually managed to try out the Barbeque on the Saturday afternoon, I felt that the weather for the Goodwood Spring Challenge race would be cold, maybe a bit grey and overcast but snow? In April? No chance…

From the Ridiculous to the Even More Ridiculous – in a week !

6 04 2008

THE RIDICULOUS – Last Sunday saw the Muddy@rse crew riding in some of the wettest, muddiest conditions I have ever ridden…Bedgebury, Kent.  The singletrack being compared to ‘The Somme’, so much so I was expecting trench foot to take a fancy to my tootsies halfway round, and that was with Sealskinz on :-)

The Water Baby !

Not to be deterred, we set off on the singletrack with (literally) a river running towards us.  It just got worse from then on really and I think it’s safe to say Bedgebury has a bit of a ‘drainage problem in the lower field’ when it comes to its singletrack.  Mind you though once you got your head round the fact that you were gonna get dead muddy and wet, it made for real fun riding.  The 16 of us hardy souls were smiling all the way round, splashing in the gigantic puddles that were strewn throughout the whole trail and regrouping on fireroad with tales of our near offs/wet feet/chaffage.  Rick actually went over the bars and landed face first in a black sloppy muddy puddle, it even filled his ears with gloop – which was nice !

The mud made everything more challenging, especially walking, which unfortunately Ollie & Chris had a taste of as Bedgebury respectively took claim to their rear mech hanger and crank bolt in the space of about 20feet and saw the them taking a long (chaffing) walk home to the visitor centre – oh and cake / tea / clean clothes, etc.

The rest of us ploughed on through the slop being constantly chased by ‘The Kid’.  A little lad of about 6 who was out with his Dad.  Everyone time we stopped to regroup he appeared out of the trees and, not that we were bothered at all, we suddenly found ourselves sprinting off into the distance our egos not allowing him to overtake us :-)   He was brilliant though, insisted on riding the whole trail (with the odd push from Dad) and he loved catching us up and (nearly) overtaking us.

Back at the Visitor Centre we washed bikes, ate our cake (in stealth-like fashion) and laughed about the day we’d just had.  We’d managed to steer clear of the rain clouds that, along with Alex, chased us round the trail but with drops appearing we said farewell til the next time and congratulated ourselves on such a great day.  The clocks had gone forward, it was a hellishly early start but we dragged our @rses out of bed and all things considered, it was worth it.  Be warned though the parking charges went up 1 April to £7.50 and for that price I’d let the trail dry out a lot more to make sure you get your money’s worth…or, contact me direct and I’ll give you a link (for small groups only) to some free parking nearby :-)    Clicky for photos: http://photos-by-lisa.photosnaps.org.uk/c1488429.html     Now, onto:-
