Club Ride – 30 Mar, Singletrack at Bedgebury Forest

27 03 2008

Bedgebury Forest is on the border of East Sussex & Kent and a little while ago they were given lottery funds to build England’s 1st manmade singletrack trail.  Aren’t we lucky !

At approximately 16km long it’s not a massive trail and being in the South East it can get a bit muddy in a few places as we have no bedrock to support it’s structure, however, it is a good fun trail and totally rideable (and we’re used to a bit of mud !).  It’s not as technical as parts of the North Downs but you will still need good offroad singletracking experience or you could find it too much of a challenge.

At the end of the ride we’ll stop off at the Freeride Park and check out the woodwork / jump area they’ve built and you can either opt to stay here and play or continue back with us on the singletrack to the Visitor Centre where they sell tea and cake/snacks etc.  There’s also a a bike shop if you need anything.  Parking is £6 for the day (which a little bit steep but there’s plenty of parking for a big group) and there’s a Go Ape if you’ve got the energy at the end of the day for further play in the trees or you could go and take another loop of the trail in.  Check out the link below for full info and directions.

As always you need to wear a helmet, be self-sufficient with spares and food and take responsibility for your own safety.  Mountainbiking can be dangerous, but we need to keep it fun !  Cheers and hope to see you on then.
