Summer Solstace Selebration

27 06 2010

We decided to take over Gumby Bothy again to celebrate the longest day.  8 of us made our own way there for tea time where we cooked up a joint feast on the Barbie.

Rick and I parked at Findon and cycled over via the Monarchs Way and other trails we’d never ridden before; Hels cycled in from Winchester on a 2 day SDW trip , Paul cycled in from Hampshire after the day job arriving at 10pm, Guy & Janine cycled in from nearby home, Mike & Suzanne walked in from the SDW.  All of us sporting either huge rucksaks or Bob trailers.

The fire the ‘Boyz’ made kept us warm well past midnight and a few glasses of vino helped wash down the toasted marshmallows.

Our beds for the night were raised platforms of varying sizes and comfort factor with the ‘seasoned wild campers’ choosing the luxury option at the top of the barn lol!

Waking the following morning to another perfect summer’s day we waved Hels and Paul off at 9.30, their roast dinner in Eastbourne calling their names, while the rest of us slowly gathered thoughts and belongings and parted ways late morning.

What another brilliant adventure not too far away from home.  Til next year.  Lisa

Gumber Bothy is £10 pppn to stay on the only Bothy in the south east of england.  Completely traffic free silence is guaranteed, it’s a very special place.
